Linspector - A simple Linux vital information monitoring solution
Linspector is a system daemon for monitoring the vital information of Linux hosts in a network.
Idea
Some years ago Thilo Bangert and I developed the idea of a network protocol for system monitoring called SVIP. Since SNMP is far from simple and Nagios is some kind of weird, we decided to implement our own idea. Thilo had at that time coded a small server application and I wrote the specification of our concept. We didn't finished this project... :(
Now I am working on system monitoring again and there are much things I am missing in the available software. System monitoring must be as simple as possible with the lowest load on the monitored host. The monitoring host should do all hard work like parsing etc.
Linspector will exactly account this as the main goal, for implementing a monitoring system with completely new ideas, written without reading code from similiar software.
